It was Gress who picked her up as a kitten when she was a teenager. Since then Gress has been the closest person to Ruby and in fact she harbors a secret crush on her guardian. Gress is a popular mechanic on the island. She has lines of people who need her service or advice and Gress accepts everyone as her old friend, which the rational and jealous Ruby hates. Kitty works on speed and quality, and her room is always tidy (except for the windowsill, which is full of coffee mugs).
