Destiny. Such an odd word it is. What is our destiny? A goal we create that we spend our entire lives striving to reach? A path built against our determined choices? In seeking our destiny, do we get a choice or are we set to follow the path built for us, forced to live a life of agony outside of our control? For me, it did not matter how we faced our destiny, only that it seemed mine would forever be built upon torture. Anger at Kamali, who's guidance inspired me to chase my demise, who's cowardice led him to flee from his mistake... to flee from me. I was supposed to be a guardian, a protector of the people. Together, we had planned for my future, one of light and joy. One where I would stand strong beside my comrades, standing alongside them in hopes of protecting the crystals that provide life to this world. I had thought that was my destiny. What a fool I was. Innocent and naive, I had ignored the warnings. When I stepped up to receive my crystal, to become a guardian, everything fell apart. Agony filled me and the crystal burned in my hands. It only took seconds before my body began breaking, shifting into darkness in it's purest form. As the crystal tried to break from me, my rage and fear refused to let go. I was horrified at what I had become yet I was even more scared of what would occur to myself if I were to let go. My body was no longer stable. I had no physical form to return to. Only a soul and a stone. Wait. Two souls. No, two shards of the same soul. One held the part that knows who I am. A part that understands and can comprehend the importance of relationships and compassion. The other part was everything I had hidden beneath. My insecurities, my abandonment, my loneliness... my anger. All were parts of myself that I always had but that I managed to push aside in light of the good of my life. I watched as my other half broke off, pushing away from me with an angry scowl. In the aftermath, I just stayed stagnant. Unaware of what was happening in the living, unable to comprehend time, I simply remained, nor really alive yet not quite dead. Just waiting. If I had known what would happen next, I would've fought to escape. Instead, I was content to simply remain. One day I heard something different. It was almost as if someone called out to me, but I refused to respond. I merely watched as the other half moved towards the sound, soon disappearing from sight. Maybe I could have done something to prevent the future, to prevent the darkness from taking my life. When I would one day find my way back to the earth, everything would be different. Darkness rules the land under the hand of the demoness. My name would be feared, the shard of my soul having scourged who I was before. I thought at one point that my destiny was to protect but, when I look out among the destruction I had caused, I can't help but question if all along this was to be my destiny. After all, this is where I've been left, barely living as a shadow of who I once was...
